Inside Noovo

Product overview

How Noovo works: social trip planning around who, where, and when

I built Noovo because I kept losing trips in group chats. It's a social trip-planning app for friends that takes three signals, who you'd actually travel with, where they're headed, and when everyone's free, and shows the trips already hiding in plain sight.

I started building Noovo around three signals: who you'd travel with, where you want to go, and when you're free. Every trip I've ever taken, group or solo, started from one of those. Noovo's job is to fill in the other two using the friends you already follow.

Most trip-planning apps are itinerary tools. They assume the trip already exists and help you pack the hours of a known day. I wanted to sit upstream of that. At the layer where the trip becomes a real thing in the first place. Where "we should totally go" turns into a date on a calendar and a group on a flight. That's Noovo.

The three pillars: who, where, when

Noovo treats the three starting points as equal entry points. You don't have to know the destination to plan. You don't have to know the dates. You only need one of the three.

These aren't three separate features. They're three views into the same underlying graph: who is going to be where, and when.

The friend map: where your people actually are

The home screen of Noovo is a single interactive map. Every friend with a trip on the books appears as a dot. Geographic clusters tighten as commitment solidifies. Off-screen arrows point toward trips beyond the viewport. Below the map sits a timeline scrubber. Slide through dates and watch friends appear and disappear on the map in real time.

If three of your friends are in Lisbon next April, you'll see it. If two are flying through Tokyo the same week you're free, you'll see that too. The map is not a feed. It's an answer engine for the question every trip starts with.

Free-time windows: the data nobody else captures

Most apps know your trips. Noovo also knows your open weeks. The time off you've blocked out but haven't filled with anything yet. This is the missing piece in social trip planning, and it's the difference between a chat that dies and a trip that actually happens. The long version of how free-time windows work is here.

You mark a week as free. So does your friend. Noovo notices the overlap and tells both of you. Now there's a window. Now the "we should totally go" has a deadline. Now it's a real conversation, not a hypothetical.

Friend trip overlap: the trips you didn't know existed

When two friends' plans cross, same city, same week, even close geography on the same dates, Noovo surfaces the overlap. Not as notification spam. As a quiet "turns out": turns out you and Alice are both in Barcelona the same week. Want to make it a thing?

The overlap detection is what makes Noovo social rather than personal. Other planners help you organise the trip you already know about. Noovo shows you the trip you didn't.

Privacy: you decide what's visible

Every trip on Noovo has a visibility setting. You can share a trip with everyone, with just your followers, with specific friend groups, or keep it fully private. Same for free-time windows. Nothing is shared by default with people outside your network.

The data Noovo holds is the bare minimum needed to do the overlap math: your trips, your free weeks, and which friends you've chosen to share them with. There is no public feed. There is no algorithmic timeline. There is the map, the people on it, and the trip you're about to plan.

Why social trip planning didn't exist until now

The reason this category is new isn't that nobody thought of it. It's that the substrate didn't exist. You needed enough friends with phones in their pockets, enough remote work to make free-time variable, and enough trust in private social tools to share dates with people you actually know.

That all happened in the last few years. Noovo is the app for the moment that happened.
